Spring Training – Practice – Rehearsal

Posted in Updates by admin @ Mar 30, 2009

In the Wall Street Journal (3/30/09), an interesting note on “Sports” noted the complete lack of correlation (even negative) between Spring Training records in Major League Baseball and actual performance during the season.  The author correctly points out that this is perhaps because the purpose of Spring Training is simply to “get back in shape,” try out new players, etc.

Great point — which adds a new level to the discussion of practice, performance, rehearsal, etc.  In the rehearsals for a Broadway show, (not a tryout or audition — which may be closer to Spring Training), the person is already selected for the part — so the rehearsal is going to be significantly connected the actual performance of the show.

More on this — it’s a very interesting point.
